Diwali 2024
Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most celebrated festivals in India and across the world. Rooted in Hindu traditions, Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It is a five-day celebration that includes the lighting of oil lamps, decorating homes with vibrant rangoli, exchanging gifts and sweets, and enjoying festive meals with family and friends. Fireworks illuminate the sky as people come together to honor prosperity, happiness, and new beginnings. Diwali holds a deep spiritual significance and is celebrated by millions, making it a beautiful occasion of joy, unity, and renewal.
The Asian American Alliance, Inc. hosted the Diwali Celebrations on October 30th, 2024 at the Indiana Statehouse. It was an evening filled with joy and cultural festivities, including free food, henna art, and live performances that showcased the vibrancy of this cherished festival. We were also honored to welcome Karrah Herring, Indiana’s Chief Inclusion, Equity, and Opportunity Officer, as our guest speaker. Her insights on inclusion and unity brought even greater depth to this special occasion. It was truly a celebration of the Festival of Lights as all who attended enjoyed an evening of culture and community as we celebrated light, joy and togetherness.
